Please don't send health data or screenshots that show it. We never need it to help.

Your purchase

  • Polar emails you the download link for Health to Mac after you buy. The file is Health-to-Mac-<version>.dmg, and the app inside is Health to Mac.app. Keep that email: it's how you download the app again.
  • Updates come through the app itself: Health to Mac → Check for Updates…
  • The iPhone app is free.
  • Free if you build it yourself on GitHub. The paid download is the signed, notarized Mac app, with every feature and automatic updates.

When the iPhone app can't sync

The iPhone app shows what's wrong at the top of its screen. These are the messages and what to do.

Can't reach your Mac

Wake your Mac and check that Health to Mac → Live Bridge is on, and that the iPhone is on the same Wi-Fi (or Tailscale). The iPhone app tries again on its own. If macOS asked whether to accept incoming connections, choose Allow.

Local Network access is off

Turn on Settings → Health to Mac → Local Network on the iPhone so it can find your Mac.

Your Mac didn't accept this iPhone

Pair again: on your Mac, open Health to Mac → Live Bridge and scan the pairing code with the iPhone's Camera.

Waiting for this iPhone to be unlocked

Health data can't be read while the iPhone is locked. The app syncs after you unlock it.

Sync paused

iOS paused the sync before it finished. It continues from the same place next time.

Update Health to Mac

The iPhone app and the Mac app don't understand each other. Update both: on the Mac, choose Health to Mac → Check for Updates…

Good to know

  • iOS wakes the iPhone app when Health has new data, at most about once an hour for each kind of data. To send new data right away, open the app and tap Sync Now.
  • The first sync sends your health history in batches and can take a while. If it's interrupted, the next sync picks up where it stopped, and the Mac skips anything it already has.
  • Re-importing an export.zip is safe: rows already in the database are skipped.
  • Your database is at ~/Library/Application Support/Health to Mac/health.sqlite. If an older folder is still there, the app renames it to this one on launch. Back it up like any other file.
